I think he'll like it

Near the beginning of the year, I made a gift (this kit bag) , for a special young man.  Surprised by the lack of masculine fabrics in my stash at the time, I started gathering manly fabric for future gift making for guys.  This week, I dipped into some of those 'stached  fabrics to stitch up a new version of the kit bag as a gift.

A simple zip top bag design is great for organizing toiletries... and makes a perfect gift idea for guys or gals - it's all in the fabric choices!

The two main fabrics are from Michael Miller's Urbanista collection.  I especially love the mustache print. :o)

Piping adds great structure to the finish and looks sharp in this Amy Butler print.

I've got some more mustache themed ideas as additional gifts, as this is only the start on gift making for the guys on my sewing list.  Now to stitch up a couple of more of these kit bags and some flannel lounge pants.  How's your gift making going?

  1. You are making great progress on your Christmas list Katherine! This will surely be appreciated. The fabric is very appropriate too!

  2. Looks great! I'm also planning to sew something similar for my nephew for Christmas. Did you use some ready pattern? (I'm not really good with piping, so I'm sure I couldn't sew such box bag on my very own).

  4. HA I love this - your post showed up in my blogreader and just the top half of the first picture was showing on my screen - I immediately did a double take and said to myself ... GUY FABRIC YAY! What a great bag!

  7. Love the prints you choose. I like how the mustache print is almost a camo look. When I look at my stash it very much screams "girl" colors and tones. Maybe I should challenge myself to do a more masculine printed project. Thanks for sharing this with us!

  11. I really like the addition of the piping. And those fabrics are great.

My gift making got sidetracked as I'm trying to get a quilt finished to go on the spare bedroom bed. Almost there, just the binding left to do and then Santa's workshop will be back in full swing.
