Wrapping up the week with a late night finish that has me really happy to share with you - not only because I love my newest pillow cover, but to finally clear this from my WIP list. This sweet snowflake block has been kicking around for quite awhile. ;o)
The block was inspired by a knitting pattern and I decided to keep it simple with my fabric choices but to play it up a bit for the quilting design. I used a off white rayon thread to quilt individual snowflakes randomly across the pillow front. There's lots of negative space between the flakes, in the hopes of making them stand out a bit more. I'm pretty happy with the results and will be trying this again! ;o)
I always have fun deciding on the finishing details for my pillows. This sweet snowflake was begging to be trimmed with little pom poms. I was more than happy to oblige. ;o)
The back of my pillow is a fine wale white corduroy which makes the perfect backdrop for a piece of vintage embroidered ribbon trim to be added along the hidden zipper placket. Totally love this sweet detail and the softness of this combination!
Who said pillow backs had to be boring? ;o)
While savouring this happy finish, I'm also working away on a few more seasonal projects. My creative energies seem to be in full force at the moment, so I'm trying to make the most of it. Hoping your week has been a wonderful one! Happy stitches to all of you working on gifts and seasonal projects. :o)
I'm linking up my latest finish with Amanda Jean and friends over at Crazy Mom Quilts for Finish it up Friday!
Another beautiful finish Katherine! And the blue spotty fabric makes a delightful snowflake! Although I hate making the backs of cushions- not sure why? Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this!
ReplyDeleteSo pretty! I love the ribbon detail on the back.
ReplyDeleteKatherine, my dear, this pillow is absolutely precious and sure to become the newest family heirloom! The decorative ribbon on the back is clever, but that Pom Pom trim clinches it for me! Can't wait to see what else you've been working on!
ReplyDeleteThis is lovely and I'm especially drawn to your quilting AND that colored stripe on the back! Very nice.
ReplyDeleteOh, love your new snowflake pillow! The light blue dot fabric is a perfect pairing. And it can stay out all winter and still blends for Christmas. The vintage style Pom Pom finish made me smile. It's been a while since I've seen Pom poms framing a pillow. Your quilting design is a fabulicious choice.
ReplyDeleteThe snowflake quilting is perfect, great design!
ReplyDeleteOh Katherine... this is beautiful! And the quilting is perfect for it. Love the pom pom trim and the corduroy backing. I have a piece of corduroy with Christmas print on it that I got on sale years ago just because I loved it. I'd never thought of turning it into a pillow until now! Thanks for the idea.
ReplyDeleteOh, Katherine! In one word...Elegant!
ReplyDeleteI just LOVE it!

ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely pillow! I was looking for a nice seasonal pillow, so I may copy the idea...

OH Katherine that's the prettiest wintery pillow I've ever seen - it's just beautiful! The fabrics, the trims, the design, the quilting - just awesome!
ReplyDeleteWell, Katherine, you've really captured the beauty of a snowflake! The soft blue and white are very serene just like a snowy night. I agree, btw, pillow backs do not need to be boring!
ReplyDeleteVery cute! I love the quilting and the fun pom poms!
ReplyDeleteThis is lovely... the pom moms are perfect!
