It's a Keeper!

Looking for a cute way to keep small items organized?

My Mini Back Pack Coin Purse & Key Chain features a key ring and a swivel hook for use in clipping it to a larger bag or using it as a key chain! This new version uses alternative materials for the body and straps, without sacrificing the cute factor.

I am always on the lookout for sewing projects that are fun, easy and useful!  It always feels so good to make something that fulfills a need.  I recently revisited one of my own patterns, the Mini Back Pack Key Chain and Coin Purse  with the idea that this design could be the perfect way for me to store my earbuds!

Playing with the finished look, I substituted quilting cotton (with fusible fleece bonded to it) for the laminated cotton in my original pattern and instead of using ribbon or twill tape for the straps, I used quilting cotton (made into double fold binding).

Adding fusible fleece to the quilting cotton gives the fabric more structure, so that the mini back pack holds its shape.  I am debating on whether to add a lining fabric (I probably will...) because I'm not sure about the durability of the exposed fleece on the inside of the back pack over time. However, it does make for a soft, non-abrasive interior for storing my earbuds!

I also couldn't resist adding a sweet fabric "stamp" to the pocket.  Honestly, if it wasn't for the fact that my stash is currently packed away in a storage unit, I may have played around (read: given in to getting carried away, no doubt), with adding even more embellishments! ;o)  Lots of possibilities for adding little touches on this tiny make!

Pretty pleased with the results, knowing I won't be dealing with tangled  or lost earbuds!  Crazy to realize that it's been nine years since sharing my first versions of this fun design.  Glad to give it a new look and find another use for such a fun little make.
