Sewing a forest

The idea to turn triangles trimmed from blocks into scrappy trees has swept me away!  A half dozen little zipper pouches made (so far!) from linen and cotton scraps with other trimmings.

My current little forest of Tiny Tree Zipper Pouches (with the first one I made and blogged about, already gifted to my lovely friend, Maja).

They are simple and sweet, with a Zakka vibe which I adore. I like to keep a stash of hand made gifts, ready for gifting, so these are a great addition!

The finished size of the pouches is the same, but I played with details like adding ric rac, lace, fabric tags for the pouch fronts, with beads etc. for the zipper pulls.

I love the patchwork backs for each pouch because not one is the same as the next!

It was so fun varying the details and finding a creative way to use up a few scraps.

I piece the scraps directly onto a piece of batting, cut slightly larger than the needed finished size. Then I quilt the patchwork and trim it to the necessary size to make the pouch back.

It is very satisfying to take so many little bits of fabric and turn them into a useable item.

The bounty of small green zippers I have on hand, dictated the size to make the zipper pouch. ;o)

Small projects like this are so rewarding because not only do they finish quickly, but they allow the use of small treasured bits of trims or buttons to come into play.

I have a feeling that with more scraps to be used and more zippers on hand, this little forest may continue to expand. ;o)

I'm linking up my latest finish with Amanda Jean and friends over at Crazy Mom Quilts for Finish it up Friday!
