A Parade of Rainbow Bee Blocks!

I have been keeping busy with two online quilting bees this year and sharing it all on my Instagram account, but have failed at posting regularly on my blog!  Time to change that.

Stretching back to May of this year, the ladies in the Rainbow Quilt Bee were requested to sew scrappy Granny Square Blocks - colourful and with a mix of low volume.  I happily dove into my scraps to sew up two of these fun blocks for Kerry.

For the month of June, the Cross and Plus Block was selected for everyone to sew for Rosie.  She asked for a palette of blues/mint green and orange with colourful low volume fabrics for the background.

Initially, I was unsure how successful my limited scrap stash would be in providing these colours for Rosie's blocks.  Turns out, I need not have been concerned - I unearthed some treasures as I dug through my bins of scraps!

Christmas in July was the theme chosen by Andrea for the Scrappy Trip Around the World Blocks for the month of July! She asked for reds and greens, along with blues and pinks, to be accompanied with low volume fussy cuts for the corners for her blocks.

I made a trip to search through the fabric boxes I had in our storage unit (as I obviously can't bring all my sewing supplies with me to the temporary rental homes we have been staying in), to find my Christmas fabrics.  Jackpot!  I was happy to re-discover treasures I had squirrelled away and add them to my blocks to Andrea.

Lindsay requested scrappy, colourful Bear Paw Blocks for the month of August.  She loves fussy cuts, so I made certain to include a few fun ones from some of her favourite designers.

For the month of September, Kristin asked for Winged Square Blocks using colourful, playful fabrics, as this quilt will be for her young daughter.  I let my fussy cut center, determine the palette for my blocks and had a great time selecting happy colours and fun prints from my stash.

It's been such a delight sewing a new block each month - wondering what it will be and the colour/style preferences needed.  I am very excited to see the quilts that will be made from all the wonderful blocks everyone has been sewing! It's also been personally gratifying to sew blocks that I have only seen or had on my wish list.

Happy to have a little recap on some of the sewing that I have accomplished during our summer renting on Silver Star Mountain, especially as we are now within days of moving back down to the Okanagan valley for the winter months. Once moved,  I look forward to actually having a desk to set my computer on - the set up in our current home has me sitting on the floor with the monitor on a rubbermaid tub.  Let's just say, it gets the job done, but doesn't encourage long sessions working on the computer... although maybe that's why I accomplished so much sewing while staying here! ;o)

    1. Thanks, Susan! Yes, those last two are particular favourites - so fun to get a chance to use a larger fussy cut in a block and you know I love to play with colour! Win, win!
