Fabric is my first love (creatively speaking), but colourful yarn is also irresistible to me. What's a girl to do when she doesn't have a money tree in her backyard to help fatten her yarn stash? She finds a way to repurpose or use what she has!
I had the crazy idea of using my thrifted collection of crewel yarn
to crochet some hexagons.
What fun! Plus, it's a more economical way for trying out a colourful idea (for someone that doesn't have a bountiful knitting yarn stash.... yet)!
Understandably, it's not as though I have enough yarn to make this into something large, like an afghan, but all that yarn play will become something useful. Stay tuned to see the completion...fingers crossed that the next crazy idea for this project will turn out. ;o)
I'm not sure what crewel yarn is, but your hexies are gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI looked in my back yard and I don't have a money tree out there either - life is SO not fair!!! ;)
What a fab idea! Crewel yarn is only wool, so it makes sense to crochet with it, but I'd never thought of it and I'd bet most other people haven't either!!
ReplyDeleteCute play on words.... and your project is wonderful! I love all the colours!
ReplyDeleteYum Yum!
Great idea. I love doing crochet as well, but have been avoiding it for two reasons (a) because I have to finish hand quilting my daughter's quilt and both that and crochet are 'evening' activities for me. I am trying to concentrate on getting this quilt finished before she turns 40! And (b) yarn is sooooo expensive here in the UK. Seems it is quite expensive everywhere actually. I never have enough funds to buy as much as I would really like to have and end up making baby blanket size afghans and what I want is a huge throw. All we need to do is win the lottery, or get that money tree you mentioned.
