It's hard to believe that fall is upon us. Our final long weekend of summer has been a glorious one, with more sunshine and warmth than originally forecast. The subtle shift of seasons is already underway, even without the calendar telling us that a new month has begun. I can feel it in the cooler air overnight and the shorter daylight hours. This summer was so wonderful in terms of weather, that I don't want it to leave, but I do enjoy autumn as it's so full of colour and bounty (yes, I'm still canning... and will be as long as fresh local produce continues ;o).
Seems only fitting that I wrap up August will a warm, sweet finish. Peachy oranges and delicious pinks are a colour combo I just can't seem to get enough of.
Originally I thought 9 blocks would satisfy as a baby quilt, but somehow I couldn't leave it at that and made 3 final blocks. Perhaps I simply couldn't resist making more HST blocks in yummy oranges and pinks. ;o)
Sherbet Pips Playdot in Vanilla had become a favourite background fabric. I've used it in my Cherry Blossom Baby Quilt and in my Swoon Quilt (which is still waiting to be quilted). |
I love how the colours glow in the morning light and can hardly wait to figure out the backing fabric, so I can begin quilting this little quilt.
Here's to a wonderful September, no matter whether you're welcoming Fall in the northern hemisphere or Spring in the southern. ;o)
The quilt turned out beautiful, Katherine!
ReplyDeleteI'm not ready for it to be fall yet either. The year seems to be speeding by... so I'm holding out for the fall equinox on Sept 22 before I give into it. :)
Delicious colours. I've been sewing blue, blue and more blue all summer - I thin you're inspiring a change of tac.
ReplyDeleteI like the extra row of blocks, but I especially love how your spinning stars came together.
ReplyDeleteoh that quilt is lovely...........and I do like it with 12 blocks too.........
ReplyDeleteMore blocks = more of a chance to use some pretty fabrics, lol!
ReplyDeleteWe had a summery long weekend here - the a/c ran all weekend, but it was mainly due to the humidity. Mine and my neighbour's gardens are getting yellow but still giving us lots of tomatoes :D It's a weird summerfall time of the year, lol! I won't mind when fall officially arrives - it's my favourite season!! The colours, the crisp air (not cold, not hot), the smells, the pumpkins - LOVE IT! :)
Happy September, Katherine! Beautiful start for this autumn! I love autumn and they say the weather may change soon. x Teje
ReplyDeleteThis did turn out beautifully Katherine! I do not blame you for wanting to add more of those pretty stars! It has a touch of Spring in the pink, and a touch of Autumn with the orange!
