Hot on the heels of last week's quilt finish, I wrapped up another languishing project (started here). Remember the Swoon quilt craze? I enthusiastically jumped aboard, finished up my blocks, pieced a backing, pin basted it together and then apparently, lost all steam to finish.
Love orange and pink together! The background fabric is Play dots in Vanilla by Aneela Hoey from her Sherbet Pips line and is one of my favourite low volume prints. |
I believe this is the longest I've had a finished top wait around to be quilted, but the finish has been worth the wait!
Before I share the full reveal of the front, I have to show how nicely the backing came together. There are two seams in the backing, can you find them?
It's always such a pleasure when pattern matching goes so well that you have to look for the seams that join the yardage to make the backing.
The colours in this fabric were a perfect complement to the Swoon blocks! |
Once again, I went ahead with a machine binding and had good results.
Appropriately named, the sweet stripe I used for the binding is called, "Happier" by Deena Rutter. |
This time I was able to keep my stitches even closer to disappearing on the front, thanks to trying the "stitch in the ditch" foot on my machine. It worked quite nicely!
Machine binding went smoothly, even for the corners and although not perfect, I'm encouraged to do it again. |
Ta-da! My finally finished version of the Swoon quilt pattern by Camille Roskelley.
Linking up this long awaited finish with Amanda Jean at Crazy Mom Quilts for
I know I had said it beforevabout other things you´ve made, but I LOVE THIS!!!

I'm swooning over your beautiful quilt! I love the fabric choices. I have unfinished projects that are decades old, so you're doing just fine. I'm new to machine binding, but I really love it. Beautiful finish!
ReplyDeleteOh, I love this! Love the colors and the pattern is a classic! I have a bundle waiting to be made into something, and it might just be into a Swoon quilt, since tjis is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteWow! Wonderful result. The colors are very nice, so bright. They remind me the currently weather in our country. Too warm :) Katherine, your quilt is beautiful. And the binding is also very nice.
ReplyDeleteHave a nice time! Jola
What a great finish!! It's lovely. It always amazes me how different the same block can look just depending on the fabrics chosen. Well done on invisibly piecing the back and on the machine binding as well.
ReplyDeleteWhat an absolute delight Katherine! It's often the ones we ruminate over that end up being our favourites! Perhaps that love was just bubbling away in our hearts! Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteLove your version of Swoon. Love pink and orange. LOVE IT!
ReplyDeleteThis looks really amazing! I'm pretty impressed with your binding too... I usually hate machine binding because it often looks SO sloppy, but this looks about as close to perfect as I think it could get! Very nice.
ReplyDeleteThis turned out beautifully! I think my Swoon quilt is still one of the ones I'm most proud of!
ReplyDeleteWow, your swoon is so happy and beautiful Katherine! I will always be in love with Swoon quilts! I need to learn to machine stitch a binding, as it’s my least favourite part of finishing a quilt ;-)
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful Katherine. I still intend to make a Swoon quilt one day
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I made a Swoon quilt a couple of years ago and I still love it!
ReplyDeleteYour swoon quilt is gorgeous! Your quilting is beautiful, the colors are summery pretty. Love the stripe binding.
ReplyDeleteI don't know how you finished swooning already!! These are most swoonable photos. This must be something else in real life. Well, you do have a way with fabric, dear Katherine!
ReplyDeleteStunning! Dare I say ... it makes me Swoon :D I think I'm going to have to marry orange and pink ... that combo always makes my day :)
ReplyDeleteAnother beautiful one! I've always wanted to make one, and now, after your gorgeous one, even more! I only wish I could make my days with more hours...
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely love your colour choices!! Congrats on the finish.
