Stitching more scraps for the kitchen

I've been on a mission to stitch up some much needed items for my kitchen and at the same time tackle the overflowing scrap bins in my sewing room.

Last week, I stitched up some new tea towels and this week, I made patchwork pieces using more of my scraps to make some oven mitts!  Here's an in progress photo showing my method for  turning those various pieces into "yardage" which I then cut my pattern pieces from.

Scraps are stitched directly onto quilt batting and then another layer of batting is added before quilting the layers together.

I used two layers of quilt batting, a layer of insulated batting, then corduroy for the palm side of the oven mitts and lined them with quilting cotton.  Hopefully this will stand the heat in the kitchen. ;o)

There's more scrappy sewing to come as I've also got some potholders to finish,  completing my new set of kitchen linens, all of which has helped thin the contents of at least one of my scrap bins. ;o)

Another happy finish that I look forward to using in the kitchen!

  16. I love these! They'd make great gifts for cooks. I have to google insulated batting since I've made pot holders before and they didn't really do the job. (I always double them up.) Thanks for the information. They really are fantastic!
