|Terrific Tulip Blocks with scrappy dark blue background fabrics!|
It's funny how one creative idea leads to another. Years ago, I sketched up a tulip quilt block that I later turned into a pattern (click here for the terrific tulip) to sew a 12" block. I stitched together a few versions of my block and tucked them away, with the thought that one day I would love to sew a quilt using this block. Each Spring, I would look at those blocks and feel a bit guilty that I still hadn't taken the time to work out a quilt design featuring them, but kept putting it off.
Intrigued, I kept playing with the block design, eventually settling on a mini quilt design, showcasing a smaller scale (slightly modified - with multiple sizes) version and released the Tiny Terrific Tulips Mini Quilt pattern in April of this year. My pattern testing lead to lots of tulip block sewing with various fabric combinations. I have always been drawn to scrappy quilting, so no surprise that the versions I loved most from my experimenting, were the scrappiest ones.
|Terrific Tulip Blocks have taken over my sewing space!|
Project ideas for using my scrappy tulip blocks have been my focus this Spring and now I have a "garden" of terrific tulip blocks sewn, with more in progress.
Along with the tiny terrific tulip block projects I have been sewing, I was inspired to return to the larger version of my block and have made a few changes to the initial design. Pleased with the results of my experimentation, I am now working on a quilt design. Scrappy, of course.
