This and that

I always seem to have more sewing projects on the go than I probably should and I find that sometimes I need to mix things up a bit.  Quilting has be predominant for me the last while, but I find I like to throw in the odd small sewing project along the way.  Flipping through some sewing books, I decided to divert myself with a couple of fun, smaller sewing projects.  A scrappy new pincushion provided some instant gratification, (pattern found in this book)
along with a place to keep my hand sewing needles.  It's making crafting more organized for me because instead of searching amongst my pins for the needle I need, I know exactly where my needles are.
After perusing Weekend Sewing, I couldn't resist trying out this slipper pattern from Heather Ross.
My version was made using the embroidered bodice of a thrifted linen dress and a felted sweater for the soles.
The quilting cotton I used for the lining are the only new materials in my slippers.  Re purposing always makes me happy!
Besides these small sewing projects, I've been finishing up some needlework projects and started thinking about my upcoming blogiversary - I'm thinking a giveaway is in order.  Stay tuned on that.   Wishing you joy in whatever you put your hand to, I'm off to do some sewing. ;o)

  4. What fun projects, Katherine. I love smaller projects that can be finished up - gives a feeling of accomplishment more quickly than those big projects. ;-) Love those slippers, your toes will look great AND be warm (with the felted bottoms).

I like the looks of your old thread in the jars too. I've a bunch of my sewing stuff stored in jars as well.

  9. The slippers are so lovely and feminine. I like how you turn around and come up with different projects. I bet that after these projects, you are refreshed and ready to get back to the main body of your work. I think I should dedicate a pin cushion just for needles because I am always looking among the pins.
    Those slippers are darling!
