Sew Quick Scrappy Zippered Pouch

If you're looking for a quick to sew gift, may I suggest a scrappy little zipper pouch?  This one uses triangles trimmed from quilt blocks, which I stacked and then free motion stitched to make a scrappy tree for the front side of the pouch.

The back of the pouch uses more scraps of cotton that were stitched onto a scrap of quilt batting, then quilted.

I start by sewing the tiniest scraps onto the batting and then continue by sewing larger bits as I cover the area needed to make the pouch back.

Happily, everything I needed for this project was in my stash, such as a bit of lace and ric rac,

I used the length of my stashed zipper (5.5") to determine the width of my pouch then drew a rectangle and rounded the bottom corners.

which I think add a little more charm to the pouch without making it too fussy.

A lining in a contrasting fabric adds a pop of colour to the pouch interior. If you are interested, I have a tutorial for machine sewing the lining to the zipper - it's the method I like to use because it saves me time and gives great results.

The  leaf charms clipped onto the zipper pull are pieces salvaged from a bracelet, not a necessity for pouch making, but fun additions - if you have items that would suit.

For gift giving, a tube of hand lotion and some lip balm will be slipped inside or maybe some special soap.  The pouch is just the right size for holding such necessities or even a gift card.

A small investment of time plus a fun way to use up tiny treasured bits of fabric! I'm off to finish more of these for my own gift giving, paired with these gift tags.  Happy stitching!

I'm linking up my latest finish with Amanda Jean and friends over at Crazy Mom Quilts for Finish it up Friday!
