Lovely B&W selection. I like photos when something is tricky to describe as it helps me to see exactly how I should be doing something, but good clear diagrams can often be as effective. Happy pattern writing! Thanks for the giveaway opportunity.
ReplyDeleteI typically prefer photos to diagrams. Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteOooh, yummy! I like patterns with photos or diagrams -- something so I can see what I'm supposed to do. Thanks for the fab giveaway, Katherine!
ReplyDeleteI'm a follower via GFC/Bloglovin' and you're on my bloglist sidebar.
ReplyDeleteHm. I'm going with pictures, if they're good pictures and instructive. Some aren't very instructive. Love these fabrics, and I'd love to win them.
ReplyDeleteI guess I like photos, but diagrams are good in some instances too. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteDef photo's! It helps to see what the writer/designer is talking about when you cannot understand what they wrote.
ReplyDeleteI prefer both photos and diagrams. I know, not much of an answer, but I think they both have their place in patterns. Thanks for the great giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI'd say a mixture of both. Diagrams for piecing, pictures for eye candy. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI would say both. I think each can be helpful in a different way.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
Amandak@whatthebobbin
I think I for very complicated thinks photos work better for me, but clear diagramms are always great!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the lovely give away!
I am a happy follower!
ReplyDeleteI prefer diagrams that are clearly illustrated. Thanks for doing the giveaway! adriprints(at)yahoo(dot)com
ReplyDeleteLovely fabric collection! I prefer pictures, but they have to be clear and good quality.
ReplyDeletePatterns with photos!
ReplyDeletePhotos, definitely!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the pattern-making!
Pictures explain more to me than a diagram.
ReplyDeleteSuch a wonderful and generous give-away Katherine! Thanks for a chance to win these lovely black and whites!
ReplyDeleteI love photos and diagrams, depending on the factor of difficulty... LOL, not much of a help, am I?
I‘m an inspired follower!
ReplyDeleteHate to be that person, but I can go either way! Though I do like diagrams, as long as they are not too complicated!
ReplyDeleteGenerally I'm happy with diagrams.
ReplyDeleteI try to include diagrams in my patterns but sometimes a photo is the only thing that will work for clarity.
ReplyDeleteI like photos, thanks for the chance to win this beautiful bundle.
ReplyDeleteI like photos, but sometimes you have to diagram on those, too. :)
ReplyDeleteI also follow you with bloglovin
ReplyDeleteI follow your blog via GFC and Google Reader; thanks for the chance!
ReplyDeletepatterns with diagrams are always useful.
ReplyDeleteWell, I'd rather have both :) But I guess if I had to choose I'd take photos over diagrams. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI like photos. Thank you for the chance to win your lovely black and white fabrics.
ReplyDeleteIt depends. I usually prefer photos if they're clear, well-lit and close-up. But I like diagrams if they're well-illustrated and clearly show the technique that is being described. Sometimes diagrams do a better job of illustrating a technique close up than a photo can.
ReplyDeleteoh man, this stack would be perfect for a quilt I'm daydreaming.
ReplyDeleteI prefer to have pictures. It helps to see an actualy item rather than a drawing.
these are lovely! I am a diagram girl, as long as they are done well. I do all of my patterns with diagrams, easier to photocopy. I suppose if you are doing them PDF photos are fine too! (if you ever need a pattern tester, I'm game!)
ReplyDeleteI am also a follower of your blog
ReplyDeleteI would pick photos over diagrams, simply because sometimes some people's diagrams make no sense to my brain. ;) But a photo gives you exact visuals of what the step or end result is.
ReplyDeleteI just started following you with bloglovin'!
ReplyDeleteI think it depends on the project, but typically diagrams or very, very clear photos.
ReplyDeletetinaotherworld (at) yahoo (dot) com
I'd prefer diagrams to photos. Good luck with your pattern writing! And thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteI prefer diagrams
ReplyDeleteI follow your wonderful blog
ReplyDeleteIf it's something that will need printing, I usually prefer a diagram. Photos are nice when something is confusing though!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the giveaway! For online directions I prefer photos, but it its on paper I tend to prefer diagrams for some reason.
ReplyDeleteDiagrams please!
ReplyDeleteDiagrams, thanks.
ReplyDeleteI need photos because I'm a beginner! Thank you!!!
ReplyDeleteI think photos always improve a pattern. sarahsaturdiy @ gmail . com
ReplyDeleteI like a mix of both. Usually I prefer pictures, but diagrams are nice with piecing instructions. Especially if the fabrics in the photo aren't high contrast.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance to win and good luck with your pattern writing!
I like a mix of both - whatever makes following the directions simpler. For something complicated, diagrams can be less convoluted. (Love the fabrics - I'm looking to stock up on B&Ws! :)
ReplyDeleteIt depends on the project, but usually pictures work great :)
ReplyDeleteI love photos, but diagrams can be good, too.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
I am a follower of yours.
ReplyDeleteThanks!
I like patterns.thanks for the chance.
ReplyDeleteI think photos are the easiest to follow.
ReplyDeleteI follow you on GFC but I did transfer all of my blogs I follow to Bloglovin.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely photos as sometimes diagrams are hard to figure out (for me)
ReplyDeleteI prefer diagrams with a few pictures. Love the black and white!
ReplyDeleteI follow using friend connect, but we'll probably switch to Bloglovin
ReplyDeleteI think diagrams are clearer. Thanks for the awesome giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI'm ok with either photos or diagrams. It depends on the clarity of the writing accompanying the illustrations. Thanks for a great giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI am a new blog follower. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI prefer photos to diagrams usually.
ReplyDeleteI'm a new follower!
ReplyDeleteI've found that, 9 times out of 10, a photo will show a step more clearly than a diagram will.
ReplyDeleteI prefer photos! It's easier to see everything!
ReplyDeletedazzlingshorty(at)yahoo(dot)com
I follow you on BL
ReplyDeletelove the bundle! I prefer photos. They are usually more clear as to what needs to be done. Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI like photos the best. Thanks
ReplyDeleteI prefer photo's with a diagram here and there!

Always looking to beef up the black/white stash. I think I respond better to diagrams
ReplyDeleteLove the black and white fabrics. I'd prefer the photo instructions.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance to win! I prefer a combination of photos and diagrams, just in case. ;)
ReplyDeleteI prefer both photos and diagrams but if I had to choose, I'd go for diagrams.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for your generosity! =)
The engineer in me likes diagrams.
ReplyDeleteI prefer photos, but sometimes, a diagram can better show a complex or fiddly step, so I would say ... a combination of both :D
ReplyDeletePatterns with LOTS of photos.
ReplyDeleteI really prefer the photos unless the diagrams are of exceptional quality. Hand drawn diagrams are unappealing but an Adobe Illustrator diagram done well would be all right.
ReplyDeletevicmil at aol dot com
I prefer diagrams--sometimes I just don't see the detail in photos.
ReplyDeleteI prefer photos.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance to win!
I have enjoyed following your blog since I started on this quilting journey....and I think you were my first follower who wasn't a relative! Here's to many more wonderful posts, Katherine!
ReplyDeleteWonderful selection of fabrics...and I always love photos to accompany written instructions. Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteI love photos but if it is hard to see then a diagram would be better
ReplyDeleteLove this bundle of fabrics - thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI prefer diagrams in a pattern - mainly because they use less ink if I print them off!
I'm collecting black and whites at the moment.
ReplyDeleteI prefer patterns with photos if I purchase the pattern, but diagrams work better for me when I download a pdf.
Thanks so much for the chance! I prefer diagrams myself.
ReplyDeleteI think it kind of depends on the application. Sometimes a photo says it all, but a diagram can actually point to specific areas when needed. Probably diagrams #1. Thanks for the great giveaway - love blacks & whites!!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd yes I'm a follower!
ReplyDeleteEasy question - I much prefer photos as they are real life whereas a diagram is really the drawers interpration of it. If that makes sense. Photos do tend to make for longer instructions though.

ReplyDeleteI prefer photos as long as they are clear and really show me what I'm supposed to do. Love the fabric 8ths! Thanks so much!
ReplyDeleteANd I'm a happy follower!
ReplyDeleteI prefer photos. Love the black and white
ReplyDeleteI think I prefer photos, but sometimes they don't show the whole story, so i'll say PLENTY of photos!
ReplyDeleteFor printed patterns diagrams are fine as long as they are easy to follow.
ReplyDeleteFor blog patterns/tutorials lots of photos.
I think instructions with photos would be very helpful!
ReplyDeleteLove them! I like photos if they are still clear enough to print off black and white - I like to print off my pdf patterns. :)
ReplyDeleteI like photos, generally, unless the diagrams are really clear. Thanks for the chance to win this great set of fabrics!
ReplyDeleteI do find photos easier to follow. Thanks and have a wonderful day!
ReplyDeleteI too usually prefer photos. But they have to be very clear, otherwise diagrams are better.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the lovely black and white fabrics give away.
What has been the most helpful for me are the photos that have diagrams/lines overlaid onto them. I like seeing the fabric, but the diagram is sometimes more helpful. When I get both it's pretty clear.
ReplyDeleteI follow you on Bloglovin
ReplyDeleteI'm a visual kinda gal so the more photos the better!
ReplyDeleteThose are great fabrics. I prefer photos with patterns.
ReplyDeleteI do follow your lovely blog.
ReplyDeleteI think I'm more of a diagram person. In my mind, it loos alot clearer for whatever reason.
ReplyDeleteI like photographs unless it's not clear where the seamlines are. I always want on clear diagram of the layout, however. That's the easiest way to understand the quilt and to pick different fabrics.
ReplyDeleteI'm now following you on bloglovin
ReplyDeleteGorgeous fabrics. I like photos, I am definitely a visual person when it comes to learning new things
ReplyDeleteI tend to like diagrams as there's never a difficulty seeing sewing lines and such due to low light or crazy patterns.
ReplyDeleteDiagrams are better sometimes but often they're not as clear as a photo or vice versa so it depends on what the particular step calls for I guess!
ReplyDeleteI prefer photos provided they're clear and set by step ... but I have seen some nice diagrams done as well. Depends on the writers/photographer's skill I think! Go with your strength!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous fabrics - thank you :-) I prefer photos - I find them easier to follow.
ReplyDeleteI am a follower on Blog Lovin
ReplyDeleteI prefer diagramms because you can see the setting and assembly of the pieces better.
ReplyDeleteI find diagrams easier to follow. Sometimes B&W photos don't have enough contrast to see what is going on.
ReplyDeleteI am now following your blog and look forward to coming back for a look at some of your tutorials.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the opportunity.
I don't mind if it is photographs or diagrams, i am just grateful that people are prepared to share their expertise my thanks to all that share! xx
ReplyDeleteI love the black and white fabric.

I prefer diagrams, but that's just how my brain works! Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteDiagrams (also collecting black an whites, from second hand clothes too:))
ReplyDeleteehodasz at yahoo dot com
I prefer diagrams. It can be hard to see what is going on in photographs sometimes.
ReplyDeletePhotos better! :-)
ReplyDelete(my email is antifa2000 @ gmail.com)
Photos are nice, but sometimes diagrams are more useful.I think it depends on the project which I would prefer. But most of the time it's diagrams.
ReplyDeleteI think that diagrams are the most helpful, they're uncluttered and convey exactly what the designer wants.
ReplyDeleteDiagrams are easier to follow if done well and make it harder to get sidetracked by the colours you used but at least one photo helps with an overall idea. Thanks
ReplyDeleteI like a bit of everything, some times diagrams are easier to follow but generally prefer pictures. Thanks for the chance to win.
ReplyDeleteI am your follower
ReplyDeleteI like photos better. Thanks for the giveaway
ReplyDeleteI follow you on bloglovin ;)
ReplyDeleteI like diagrams if they are clear, but sometimes pictures are better since they show the actual fabric and where to place it. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteI prefer patterns with clear pictures. Although I have recently followed a bag pattern that had little drawings and mainly text and was able to follow it easily (I am not an expert bag maker). So clear written instructions can also be enough
ReplyDeleteWhen in doubt, add a picture or a diagram. As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words.

ReplyDeleteThank you for the chance to win.
ReplyDeleteI like patterns that have easy to follow diagrams as well as photos of major steps. OK, I want it all. :)

I love pictures. Lots and lots of pictures. Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeletePhotos WITH diagrams. That's the way to go.
ReplyDeletePhotos WITH diagrams. That's the way to go.
ReplyDeleteThe more photos the better for me... I am definitely a visual learner!
ReplyDeleteI'm a follower.
ReplyDeleteI would prefer diagrams - especially if I will need to print it out. Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteFor quilting patterns, I prefer diagrams. For sewing techniques, I prefer photos. And of course, every pattern needs a good photo of the finished object. Thanks for the giveaway chance!
ReplyDeleteI prefer more photos..
ReplyDeletephotos. Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI prefer photos with instructions!! It really helps to have them..
ReplyDeletePhotos!
ReplyDeletelove that bundle! If the diagrams are really clear, I prefer that because it's less ink than pictures
ReplyDeletePhotos for sure!

ReplyDeleteGreat giveaway! I prefer diagrams, but love patterns that have both. Thanks!
ReplyDeletephotos!
ReplyDeleteBlack or White is a beautiful Give Away!!Hugs Bambi
ReplyDeleteMost of the time I think diagrams work well.
ReplyDeleteIf the choice is between professional quality photos or diagrams, I pick photos every time. However, that said, I have seen some atrocious photowork. Bad lighting, distracting nail art, unpalatable color balance. In that case, professional grade diagrams might be the way to go. Publishing today is so easy that almost all of us can produce quality graphics photo or diagram.
ReplyDeletei do better with LOTS of pictures:)
ReplyDeleteGenerally I like the photos better!
ReplyDeleteI am a new follower with bloglovin :)
ReplyDeleteI like to have pictures in my patterns. Thanks for the giveaway.

I like photos... but then that's what I'm using in the patterns I'm working on, so I may be a bit biased.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway and the chance to win!
I follow you on bloglovin.
ReplyDeleteCan I say "both" depending on what's being illustrated?
ReplyDeletei am much more likely to start and complete a tutorial with both written and picture instructions.
ReplyDeletePrefer diagrams with the patterns. Thank you for the chance to add some black and white to the stash!
ReplyDeleteI like diagrams a bit better - sometimes it's more clear than a picture!
ReplyDeleteI like diagrams but for the tricky parts photos are good
ReplyDeleteUnless the photos are really fantastic, I prefer diagrams. And if I'm going to download and print them myself, always diagrams.
ReplyDeleteI'm also a new follower through bloglovin
ReplyDeleteI prefer photos if enough steps are shown in separate photographs and there is enough difference in the fabric that the block pattern is visible
ReplyDeleteI prefer diagrams.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance.
I prefer diagrams.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the chance.
I love photos in a pattern or tutorial. I do better if I can actually see what I need to be doing.
ReplyDeleteI like photos, assuming the author is using simple fabrics (tone-on-tone, maybe, or just solids) so that it is easier to keep track of which fabric is which!
ReplyDeleteGreat bundle, thanks for the chance!
I wish I could make it an either/or answer but sometimes photos are best and sometimes diagrams are best. I think with photos you can do more step outs and with the right fabric choices it does really help.
ReplyDeleteI like diagrams generally, but sometimes a picture can say 1000 words, know what I mean??!!
ReplyDeletei prefer diagrams but I know a lot of people prefer photos.
ReplyDeleteI like diagrams best. Thanks for the chance at your giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI usually like photos better; however, if it is not taken well it's not going to help at all. I've used both and have found that the verbal directions along with whatever you choose usually answers any questions I may have.
ReplyDeleteI like diagrams. Sometimes it's hard to see what is actually being shown in a photo, depending on the angle and the light, whereas diagrams show only what you need and there are never hands or sewing machine parts in the way :)
ReplyDeleteLovely fabrics!
ReplyDeleteWhy choose? Better to have both photos AND diagrams!
I prefer diagrams.
ReplyDeletePhotos!
ReplyDeleteIf I can't have both, I would choose clear photos. Have seen some patterns with photos that were useless.
ReplyDeleteI've been following you for a file now. I have to find out how to keep doing it when they close Google Reader this summer. Thanks a lot!
ReplyDeleteI like diagrams better, it's often easier to super impose my fabric onto that in my mind.
ReplyDeletepattern with photos.
ReplyDeleteDepends on what is being illustrated. Usually diagrams work better for me, but sometimes I wish I could see a photo of exactly what it is the diagram is trying to show me. Sorry I'm not much help. ;-)
ReplyDeletePatterns with photos, as long as it's clear if fabrics are right-side up etc. Sometimes a diagram can be handy, but it kind of depends on what's being shown.
ReplyDeleteI'm a new follower!
ReplyDeleteAs a beginner, I would definitely prefer photos!
ReplyDeleteI think diagrams work better for my learning style
ReplyDeleteEither works for me, I'm very visual.
ReplyDelete
